Game Story

TAMPA, Florida (Ticker) -- Rookie Ivan Ciernik scored his first
two career goals and Mike Fisher, Shawn McEachern and Rob
Zamuner scored in the final 3 1/2 minutes as the Ottawa Senators
posted a 5-2 triumph over the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Ciernik accounted for Tampa Bay's opening two tallies but the
game was deadlocked with 3 1/2 minutes to go. Fisher snapped
the tie with his third goal of the season but second in four
games.

"It's nice to score a couple of goals and get the cobwebs out of
your system," said Ciernik, who played his second game since
being recalled from Grand Rapids of the International Hockey
League. "Really, those were just two great plays and they
(teammates) just made it easier for me."

McEachern's 17th goal pushed the Senators lead to 4-2 with 1:47
left before Zamuner capped the scoring with an empty-net tally
in the final minute. The win was the ninth in 11 games for
Ottawa, which has the most points (63) in the Eastern
Conference.

The Senators swept the four-game season series against the
Lightning by a combined score of 22-5, including two shutouts by
goaltender Jani Hurme.

"I thought we played a pretty strong game," Senators coach
Jacques Martin said. "You know, any time that you have a team's
number, they're going to come that much harder at you. It was
what we expected."

The Lightning fell to 1-10 since John Tortorella replaced Steve
Ludzik, who was fired after the Senators embarrassed the
Lightning, 8-3, on January 4.

"We can't continue to use excuses," Tortorella said. "We've got
to find solutions around here."

Alexei Yashin had an assist, but failed in his bid to score his
200th NHL goal. He has 11 goals and five assists in a nine-game
points streak.

The Senators have won the first two games on their six-game road
trip. Ottawa has not played at home since January 20 and will
not return to the Corel Centre until February 7.

"It is a good win for us," Yasin said. "It is tough to play on
the road and we knew they (Tampa Bay) would play well today."

Lightning rookie left wing Brad Richards scored his 14th goal, a
power-play tally that ended an 0-for-31 drought for Tampa Bay.

"Well, you always want to do more," Richards said. "We've got to
find more shots in ourselves. I scored a goal, but that is not
enough."

The game marked the second time in three nights that the
Lightning have allowed three third-period goals and lost. Tampa
Bay's Kevin Weekes, who was in net for both games, stopped 33
shots Thursday.

"It hurts," said Weekes, who has dropped seven straight
decisions. "We've got to be in the game mentally until the
bitter end. To lose like this in the last minute when we have
chances to win just makes losing harder to swallow."

Thursday marked the return of Lightning center Wayne Primeau,
who was suspended two games after picking up 22 minutes of
penalties, including a game misconduct for attempt to injure,
against Ottawa on January 20.
