Fedorov scores twice in Red Wings' win over Senators

OTTAWA -- Without knowing that he'd scored a milestone goal, Sergei Fedorov quickly looked ahead to a new one.

Fedorov scored his 350th and 351st career goals to lead the Detroit Red Wings to a 3-2 win over the Ottawa Senators on Saturday night.

"I wasn't aware of it, to be honest," Fedorov said of reaching 350 with his first goal midway through the second. "I'm pleased with that. I guess I'd like to move on and get down to 400 someday."

Steve Duchesne also scored a power-play goal for Detroit, which lost a pair of one-goal leads in the second before Fedorov scored his second of the period at 18:15 to put the Red Wings in front for good.

Fedorov joined teammates Steve Yzerman, Brett Hull, Luc Robitaille and Brendan Shanahan to give the current Red Wings roster five players with more than 350 career goals.

Detroit rebounded from a 3-2 loss at home to Columbus on Friday to win for the third time in its last four games.

"We are a very focused team and our goal is to win the NHL regular season and start the playoffs at home, so we cannot afford to lose two games in a row," Red Wings goalie Dominik Hasek said.

All five goals in the game came in the second period as Marian Hossa and Daniel Alfredsson scored for Ottawa, which lost its second straight. The Senators suffered a 3-2 overtime loss in Buffalo on Friday.

"We were looking to win this game, for sure," Alfredsson said. "They didn't look their best tonight, either. They played last night and I think we could have deserved a tie or a win."

Hasek allowed both goals despite facing just four shots in the period as the Red Wings outshot Ottawa 13-4 and 26-22 overall.

"It was sort of a disappointing period for me because they had two chances and they scored two goals. However, we scored three and it was enough to win the whole game," Hasek said.

Duchesne put Detroit ahead with his third of the season 1:47 into the second after Chris Chelios' cross-ice pass found him unmarked in the Senators' zone.

Hossa drew Ottawa even at 6:06 for his 21st goal of the season.

Fedorov restored the Red Wings' lead at 2-1 just under four minutes later on a strong individual effort.

The Russian center carried the puck alone into the Senators' zone, staying outside on the right wing to avoid Ottawa defenseman Chris Phillips before backhanding a shot that appeared to surprise goalie Jani Hurme as it went just inside the left post at 9:58.

"Maybe I had a little bit of a bad angle," Hurme said. "Fedorov is a good player but I think I still should have had it."

Alfredsson scored his 28th with 3:19 left in the second to tie it again 2-2.

Detroit regained the lead when Fedorov poked Shanahan's pass through Hurme's legs from the edge of the crease.
