Game Story

OTTAWA (Ticker) -- Alexei Yashin, Marian Hossa and Magnus
Arvedson scored in an 8 1/2-minute span of the third period as
the Ottawa Senators blitzed the Florida Panthers, 4-2.

Despite outshooting Florida, 47-15, Ottawa found itself down 2-1
with 12 minutes to play. But Yashin scored his 28th goal with
11:36 left to knot the contest and Hossa tallied with just under
six minutes remaining to put the Senators ahead.

Arvedson sealed Ottawa's third straight win over Florida with
his 14th goal with 3:10 to go.

"They had a lot of shots but not all 47 shots were good
chances," Florida goaltender Roberto Luongo said.

The Senators improved the conference's top home record to 20-7-4
and remained two points ahead of the Philadelphia Flyers for the
best record in the East.

"This was a bad game for us but we got the win," Arvedson said.
"Yashin got a big goal for us they got tired and we took
control."

Greg Adams and Mike Sillinger scored for Florida, which has lost
two straight after a four-game winning streak.

Radek Bonk staked the Senators to a 1-0 lead 3:15 into the
contest and on the play, Daniel Alfredsson picked up his 200th
career assist. But Adams countered for Florida just over 12
minutes later, scoring his seventh goal but second in four
games.

Neither team scored in the second period but Ottawa held a 28-9
edge in shots through 40 minutes.

Sillinger put the Panthers on top with his 13th goal,
capitalizing on a breakout pass by Denis Shvidki and stuffing
his own rebound past Jani Hurme 5:22 into the final period.

But that was it for Florida as Yashin knotted the contest with
11:36 remaining. Shawn McEachern was along the right boards and
found Karel Rachunek, who put a shot on net. The puck deflected
off a Florida forward and came to Yashin, who put the puck past
Luongo's stick side.

"It was a slow game for the first half," Yashin said. "When we
were down 2-1 we got a good break and scored a goal. Then we
played great in the last 10 minutes."

Hossa put the Senators on top with 3:58 left. Hossa beat
Panthers defenseman Lance Ward to a loose puck, avoided a stick
check by Luongo and beat the goaltender through the pads for his
24th goal.

Hossa gave Hurme some breathing room by setting up Arvedson's
14th goal. Hossa was along the right boards and found Arvedson
between the circles, utilizing some traffic in front of Luongo,
Arvedson put a backhander past the goaltender's glove hand for a
4-2 lead.

"After they scored there was a little shakeup and we got it back
together in the third period," Hossa said. "We played well
enough and we took lots of shots but it was getting a little
frustrating not scoring goals. Then Yash scored a big goal and
got us going."

"After they scored we were able to step it up," Arvedson said.
"They may have backed off a bit and we had some more quality
chances."
