Game Story

TAMPA, Florida (Ticker) -- A blowout on paper was exactly that
on the ice as the Ottawa Senators remained unbeaten with a 6-0
victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Radek Bonk scored a highlight reel goal and set up two others
for the Senators, who extended the best start in franchise
history to 6-0-3-0.

"We just want to keep putting the pressure on teams," said Bonk,
whose team is second overall in the NHL behind Colorado
(8-0-2-0). "When you get off to a good start like we are, you
want to keep it up."

Five other players scored as Ottawa chased goaltender Kevin
Weekes and handed Tampa Bay (2-6-1-0) its fourth loss in five
games.

"Best team in the league," Lightning coach Steve Ludzik said of
the Senators. "We are certainly a long, long way from that. They
just have too much of everything -- Yashin, Bonk, Hurme, Hossa,
the list goes on and on."

Rookie Jani Hurme recorded his first career shutout in place of
injured starter Patrick Lalime. He made 24 saves and moved to
3-0-2-0.

"Our offense did plenty of damage early on," Hurme said. "It
makes it easier on me and all of us. We really played well
mentally and physically."

The line of Bonk, Marian Hossa and Magnus Arvedson continued its
impressive play, combining for seven points and a plus-12
rating.

Arvedson's sixth goal 41 seconds into the second period gave the
Senators a 3-0 lead. Ottawa has led by at least three goals in
each of its last six games.

"It's one of our better games," coach Jacques Martin said. "We
had some good ones. We've had to play some tough teams like
Dallas and New Jersey, but tonight was a complete effort."

Teenage rookie Martin Havlat opened the scoring on the power
play 7:37 into the game and Alexei Yashin converted a feed from
Hossa 5:15 later for a 2-0 lead.

Arvedson scored in the opening moments of the second, slapping a
shot through a screen and past Weekes. Defenseman Sami Salo
knocked out Weekes 6:05 into the period with his second goal.

Rookie Dieter Kochan shut down Ottawa the rest of the period,
but Tampa Bay trailed, 4-0, entering the third in its first home
game since a 5-2 win over Atlanta on October 15.

Hossa took a pass from Arvedson and beat Kochan with a slap shot
from the right faceoff circle 4:08 into the third period for a
5-0 lead. Hossa already had extended his points streak to nine
games.

Bonk scored the goal of the night with 7:38 to play. Racing
into Tampa Bay's zone on a breakaway, he leaped to avoid a
defender and lost his balance before wristing a shot past Kochan
while falling to the ice.

Hossa, Bonk and Arvedson have combined for 15 goals and 26
assists this season. They also have the three best plus-minus
ratings in the NHL, with Hossa leading at plus-17.

Despite its bad start, Tampa Bay is just two points behind
first-place Carolina in the meek Southeast Division.
