Daze's late goal gives Hawks OT win over Senators

OTTAWA -- Eric Daze scored his third goal of the game with 5.4 seconds left in overtime as the Chicago Blackhawks extended their winning streak to four games with a 5-4 win over the Ottawa Senators Monday night.

Daze, who also had an assist, scored twice in the third and beat goalie Patrick Lalime 4:54 into overtime for his 23rd goal of the season.

It was his fourth career hat trick and second of the season.

Daze's second goal of the game gave Chicago a 4-2 lead with 3:35 left in the third.

The Blackhawks failed to hold the lead as Ottawa scored goals 78 seconds apart, including Daniel Alfredsson's second of the game to tie it 4-4 with 42.3 seconds remaining and Lalime off for the extra attacker.

Ottawa's Chris Neil also scored two goals, including his fourth of the season with 2:01 left in the third, which drew the Senators to within 4-3.

Steve Sullivan had a goal and two assists for Chicago, which beat Anaheim 2-1 on Sunday.

Both teams played their fourth game in six nights.

Ottawa opened the scoring 12:14 in as Neil beat Jocelyn Thibault through the legs for his third goal of the season.

Blackhawks center Peter White tied it 1-1 with a power-play goal at 12:08 of the second and Daze scored his 21st 3:57 into the third to give Chicago its first lead, 2-1.

Alfredsson scored his 19th at 7:44 to draw the Senators even, but Sullivan restored the Blackhawks' one-goal lead 1:36 later to silence the Corel Centre crowd of 17,622.

Chicago defenseman Phil Housley left the game while holding a towel to his bloodied right ear 8:10 into the second after he was struck in the head while blocking Ottawa defenseman Karl Rachunek's pass deep in the Blackhawks' zone.

Daze's last hat trick came in a 4-3 win over the New York Islanders on Dec. 7. . . . Chicago remained undefeated at 2-0-8 in overtime, while Ottawa suffered its first overtime loss (2-1-4). . . . The game was the only meeting between the teams this season. . . . Sullivan and Alfredsson both extended their point-scoring streaks to four games.
